Self Analysis
This class started with me wanted to have a deeper relationship with art. I consider myself a DIY person. I’m always wondering about my next project or latest obsession. I’ve learned how to sew, knit, crochet, I work with resin, make jewelry, and I even embroider. Although I am not a master in any of those skills, I’ve taught myself the basic. One category that remains an estranged relative is drawing. I do not dabble in it often because I am not that skilled. However, I no longer wanted to hold onto that fixed mindset, so I enrolled in the art course. Overall the course was challenging. I never attempted still life drawings and having to complete 6 of them made me a little nervous, but I did better than I thought. Originally, I felt that I could do better because I strayed from including too much detail not thinking I could handle it, but I took the win from the assignment because I still completed a presentable piece. Additionally, my favorite piece would have to be the midterm assignment. Although considering the change in schedule and access to material , the results weren’t too far from what I had envisioned. I was really disappointed that I was unable to implement the India Ink with the black sharpie because that created such a marvelous effect. I planned to paint the clock with the ink and a majority of the background with my favorite people lining the paper. Additionally, I wanted to include more of my friends hands as a personal aspect, but it became hard to see them and trace their palms. I had to resort to using charcoal to obtain a different texture, but it made it look a tad messy in my opinion, and I was also worried I was going to permanently stain my sheets black. Although everything wasn’t too my liking, I still appreciate my efforts. Lastly, I really wished there was more in class time. I know the corona-virus made things insanely difficult to move forward with the plans on the syllabus, but it would have been wonderful had we been able to experience more hands on time. Online classes make instructions more difficult to convey, but what can we do but modify in these crazy times. Overall, I had an enjoyable semester and appreciate what skills I have gained from this class. I looked forward to observe how those skills further change my worldly perception and increase my creativity.
