12 Drawing Series

I really pondered for a couple days on what to observe for the 12 drawings series. I looked over into the corner of my room and saw a large pile of my stuffed animals in a pile on my chair. I loved them so I decided to draw them, and I’m not that skilled in drawing realistically so I considered the simple angles and patterns ideal for a starting point. Above is the nearly finished project I deemed presentable. The last image is a part of the final drawing series but I didn’t seem to fit in ways I wanted nor appreciated, so it is included as a progress shot but not with the full photo.

Originally, I really struggled with finding the correct dotting pattern and the proper shade of colors to implicate in the piece. I didn’t want to over-complicate by adding too many unnecessary colors, but I also did not want too many of the same shades. In the end I felt I did the latter to my dismay; however, it didn’t turn out as bad as I thought. I think my favorite section was the pink bunny.

In the section above, I really tried to implement the carpet on my floor but I didn’t create the allusion I wanted. It was hard to make the colors reflect carpet and I attempted to try again in the final section at the very bottom.

I think what I especially love about what I attempted to complete was the different strokes of the brush. The drawing of the animals is a dotting method but it’s enveloped in the stroking method of the brush.

Overall, I appreciate what I attempted to complete for the 12 drawings series. I’ve seen much improvement despite the COVID-19 confusion that changed some of the course plans. I don’t typically like to draw in a realistic style, so it was hard to replicate that (not that I did so successfully). This assignment gave me a wonderful excuse to utilize my mini-canvases and paint, so for that I appreciated the activity and it made it particularity enjoyable.
